Red Hot and Golden

Posted: Jan 12 2015

In case you missed the Golden Globes this past weekend, Boyhood and The Affair were the big winners. But let’s be honest, you’re here for the red carpet review, not the awards recap. So we’ve gathered up our favorite fashion and beauty looks from the night with tips on translating them into your everyday wardrobe.

Vivacious red

When leading ladies like Lena Dunham, Taylor Schilling and Heidi Klum all showed up in red, we took note. Although their overall looks varied from minimalistic to embellished, the effect was full-on crimson drama.

How to wear it: Head-to-toe red may be a bit much for your everyday wear, so pick one showstopping piece and build your outfit around it. Slip on the Peplum Jacket in Tibetan Red and wear it with jeans during your off hours, or paired with a pencil skirt for the boardroom.

Shimmer showed up at the Globes in many different forms. Julianne Moore went for full-on decadence with feathered fringe. Kate Beckinsale pulled off a more demure take on sparkle with a beaded bodice and flowy bottom. Reese Witherspoon looked both modern and classic in a fully beaded but simple silhouette.

How to wear it: Save this look for your next night out. But when you do… go the distance in all over shine; pair the Sequin V-neck with the Sequin Pencil Skirt.

Menswear inspired

You don’t usually associate red carpet looks with menswear, but big name celebs like Melissa McCarthy, Emma Stone and Lorde all borrowed from the boys. We particularly loved the latters’ pant options.

How to wear it: This is one glam look that can be worn pretty much all day, everyday. Get Melissa’s look by mixing the feminine Sheer Combo Skirt with a tailored button down. To emulate Lorde’s look, match the Slouch Pant with the Peplum Jacket in Black.

Red lips

While there were several makeup trends that popped up on the carpet, our pick is the classic red lip seen on Emma Stone, Naomi Watts and Lorde. Why? Well, because there’s a shade to suit everyone and, as the saying goes, you’re never fully naked with red lipstick on.

How to wear it: The two biggest keys to getting red lipstick right are to pick the right shade and be precise with the application. MAC Lipstick in Russian Red is about as universal to all skin types as it gets, so experiment with it and see if it’s right for you. When applying, prevent bleeding by applying concealer around the border of your lips.

Deep side parts

This year’s Globes saw hardly any intricate updos. Instead, a glamorous and classic deep side part led the pack on short or long, straight or wavy styles. Kristen Wiig, Allison Williams and Julianne Moore were amongst the red carpet beauty channeling their inner Veronica Lake.

How to wear it: Line up the part along the arch of your eyebrow and use a fine-tip comb for a precise edge. For a bit of bling, add a crystal pin from Henri Bendel.
